The Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) (Tamil: பிலிப்பைன் தொலைதூர தொலைபேசி கம்பெனி), incorporated on 28 November 1928, is the largest telecommunications provider in the Philippines. It offers the largest and most diversified range of telecommunications services across the country through its three principal business groups, namely: Fixed Line, Wireless, and Information and Communication Technology. The company uses the most extensive fiber optic backbone and fixed line, cellular and satellite networks to provide the best services for their consumers.
It was incorporated in 1928 following the merger of four (4) telephone companies under US ownership, namely, Philippine Telephone and Telegraph Company, Cebu Telephone and Telegraph Company, Panay Telephone and Telegraph Company, and Negros Telephone and Telegraph Company.
